Can I cancel my Housing Application?

First-Time Freshman students have Housing Priority and those who live 60 miles or more from campus are required to live on. Students who are required to live on campus are not eligible to cancel their housing application, unless the have received an exemption to the policy by the Housing Committee.

Students who are not required to live on campus are eligible to request to cancel their housing application through their Housing Portal, if they have not already checked in.

The last day to cancel campus housing without financial penalty for the 2025-2026 application is July 15, 2025.
To cancel your housing, go to your ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Housing Portal, select the application you wish to cancel, then follow the instructions for Housing Cancellation.
This option is only available prior to checking in. After check in, you must submit a request to cancel. Keep in mind this is a request and it is subject to approval.

Should I apply for an exemption if I am a sophomore or above?

No, the First-Year Live-On requirement only applies to first-time freshman students.
If you are not a first-time freshman, you are not required to live on campus and you do not have to apply for an exemption.

What if I'm a first-time freshman, but I am already planning to move to Bakersfield (off campus housing) for the 2025-2026 academic year?

The Housing requirement is based on driving distance from ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ campus to the student’s designated city or town as indicated on the address provided on the CSU Apply admissions application. This designation is based on the location of City Hall or the city center according to mapping analytics. Moving, or changing address, does not qualify as an exemption, per the policy.

If the city listed on your admissions application is not listed on the Exempted Cities/Towns list, you must submit an exemption appeal via your to be reviewed by the Housing Committee. Please note that a change of address does not qualify as an approved exemption.

Can I live on campus in 2025-2026 if I'm not a First-Time Freshman?
