Admissions Requirements (Semester at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ and Exchange Program)

Students wishing to attend CSU Bakersfield through the Semester At ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ program or Exchange program must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Must be nominated by the home institution ()
  2. Students need to submit a proof of their English proficiency level.  Acceptable documents are:
    • TOEFL iBT score of 61 or higher
    • TOEFL paper-based test score of 500 or higher
    • IELTS score of 5.5 (all bands) or 6. 0 average or higher
    • LanguageCert score equivalent to CEFR B2 or higher
    • Home university English proficiency evaluation (CEFR B2 or higher)
    • Proficiency verification letter from the home university English department faculty
  3. No minimum GPA requirements.
  4. Must provide copies of transcripts in English for course placement

Financial Support documentation

After students submit English proficiency and academic transcripts in English via the online application, students must also submit financial supporting documents in order to be officially accepted as a Semester At ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ or Exchange student and be issued visa-related documents. Below are the minimum funds (USD) that must be demonstrated for each program type:

  • Semester At ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ (1 semester): minimum $15,800
  • Semester At ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ (2 semesters): minimum $31,600
  • Exchange (1 semester): minimum $9,600
  • Exchange (2 semester): minimum $19,200

You must show that you or your sponsor (e.g. your parent) has accessible funds meeting or exceeding the applicable amount to study at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ within the appropriate program type and duration. This bank letter(s) or statement(s) need to be signed or stamped by a bank official. If you are funding your study with a loan or a grant, please submit a proof of your funding with a specific amount. These documents need to be in English and the amount should be shown in both in the original currency and the US dollar amount of equivalence. Please submit your financial support documentation to studyabroad@csub.edu by the applicable deadline:

Program in/starting in Spring: November 15

Program in/starting in Fall: April 15
