The California Promise Program

The California Promise program is a degree pledge program at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ that enables new students to earn a degree in no more than two years (for Associate Degree for Transfer Students), or no more than four years (for new First-Time First-Year Students). Students who participate in the pledge program are provided with a dedicated academic advisor and priority registration for each enrollment period. In return, participating students must meet with their pledge advisor as prescribed, develop and follow their academic plan, maintain good academic standing, and complete 30-semester units each academic year.

CAP Program FAQ - 2-Year Pledge Program

How Do I Qualify for the 2-Year CAP Pledge Program?

To qualify for the 2-Year California Promise program, transfer students must meet all of the following conditions: (1) be a California resident; (2) have earned an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) from a California Community College; (3) attend New Transfer Student Orientation; (4) meet with a CAP pledge adviser to develop and approve your academic completion plan; and (5) complete and file a CAP pledge form with the CAP program coordinator.

How do I apply to the 2-year CAP Pledge Program?

The CAP program coordinator will email invitations to all Associate’s Degree for Transfer (ADT) students during their first semester of attendance at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥. Students who accept the invitation will be contacted by a CAP advisor to schedule an appointment to review their eligibility, develop a degree completion plan, and complete the pledge form.

How Do I Maintain My Eligibility to Continue in the 2-Year CAP Program?

To maintain eligibility, participating students must meet all of the following conditions: (1) confer with their CAP advisor every semester; (2) follow their degree completion plan; (3) complete 30 units each academic year; and (4) maintain good academic standing.

Once I start the 2-year CAP Pledge Program can I decide to not continue in the program?

If you no longer wish to participate in the program, please inform your pledge advisor and email capromise@csub.edu. However, you should continue to work with your major advisor to continue in your path toward graduation.

Do I have to pay extra fees to participate in the 2-year CAP Pledge Program?

No. There are no extra fees associated with the participation in the 2-year CAP Program.

Can I change my major once I’m enrolled in the 2-year CAP Pledge Program?

No. Changing your major will disqualify you from the 2-year CAP Pledge Program.

What are the consequences if I FAIL to meet the program requirements?

If you don’t complete the 30 semester units during each academic year, don’t maintain good standing, or change your major, you will be removed from the CAP program and will lose the associated benefits.

CAP Program FAQ - 4-Year Pledge Program

How do I qualify for the 4-year CAP Pledge Program?

To qualify for the 4-Year California Promise program, first-time first-year students must meet all of the following conditions: (1) be a California resident; (2) attend New Student Orientation; (3) place in college-level Written Communication and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning courses appropriate to their major; (4) meet with a CAP pledge adviser to develop and approve your academic completion plan; and (5) complete and file a CAP pledge form with the CAP program coordinator.

How do I apply to the 4-year CAP Pledge Program?

The CAP program coordinator will send student invitations via email to all first-time students during their first semester of attendance at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥. Students who accept the invitation will be contacted by a CAP advisor to schedule an appointment to review their eligibility, develop a degree completion plan, and complete the pledge form.

Once I start the 4-year CAP Pledge Program can I decide to not continue in the program?

If you no longer wish to participate in the program, please inform your pledge advisor and email capromise@csub.edu. However, you should continue to work with your major advisor to continue in your path toward graduation.

Do I have to pay extra fees to participate in the 4-year CAP Pledge Program?

No. There are no extra fees associated with the participation in the 4-year CAP Program.

Will I be eligible for the CAP Pledge Program if I don’t have a declared major?

No. You must have a declared major to be eligible for the CAP Pledge Program.

Can I change my major once I’m enrolled in the CAP Pledge program?

Yes. But ONLY if the new major can still be completed by the original 4-year graduation term date. FYI: Changing majors may increase the required unit load and may put you at risk of being removed from the program.

Can I pursue a minor or double major, as a 4-year CAP pledgee?

It will depend on the total units required to complete all your major(s) and/or minor(s). Some major or minor combinations may be possible to complete within the four years, while others are not. Adding a second major will increase your total unit load and could put you at risk of being removed from the pledge program. You must discuss this with your designated CAP advisor.

What are the consequences if I FAIL to meet the CAP Pledge Program requirements?

If you don’t complete the 30 semester units during each academic year, don’t maintain good standing, or change your major, you will be removed from the CAP program and will lose the associated benefits.

Student Testimonial

“…the California Promise program erased my anxieties about reaching academic success and soothed my stress on how I would get there. Little did I know that my choice to pledge to the California Promise in Fall of 2017 and become a founding member of the program would impact my university experience for the next 4 years…I obtained a great sense of pride and confidence that gave me the room to grow academically and personally…â€
